North Wales, Special Edition: Signs

The Welsh language is an odd duck, bearing almost no apparent similarity to English--which made all the bilingual signs I came across during my time in Wales quite entertaining to me. I also happened to be in Wales during the Eisteddfod, the annual national week long celebration of the Welsh language--which just so happened to be held this year very close to my cousins' place in North Wales--we could see the tent and fields filled with parked camper vans from the cottage. Basically, this is all to say that the Welsh language was everywhere and self-consciously so.

At any rate, allow me to present to you some of the best bilingual signs I found, in no particular order:


Yes, that's a store's name. Welsh is apparently a rival for German's title of having ridiculously long compound words.




This one's mostly for the seagull.
